How to Live your Best Life

Many of the leaders that I coach are already outstanding leaders. Their leadership style are less transformational and often top-down where they are “telling” versus “asking”.
You may ask – what is wrong with telling? Well first of all, it is debilitating for the leader and it takes away accountability for the person the leader is working with.
Next, you may say to me – gosh Dr. Brenda, I have been a leader for umpteen years, and it has worked beautifully for me. I have been consistently promoted and given awards and accolades for my effective leadership. And I would say to you – all the more reason to allow yourself a step-back from your perch and look at how you can take your leadership to the next level and become more effective.
How would you like to work less, get more from your direct-reports, have your direct-report(s) truly be accountable, instead of telling your people ‘what to do’ they are doing their job more effectively, you are spending more time on yourself, and less time directing people, as well as having better communication with your family, friends and signification-other, and most of all your level of stress goes down?
Here are the choices to elevate your current leadership:
• Whether you choose to have me coach you or
• you choose to take one of my leadership courses to teach you (every-other week) over a 3-month period to become a certified leadership coach. Where you learn the skills and gain the ability to ask better questions and be more effective as a leader.
Either of those choices will help you transform your leadership from just Setting a Goal – to – Attaining the Goal where you are a more effective leader, better communicator, better at home with family and friends, less-stressed.

Simply put – energy is everywhere. According to Google, In physics, energy is the quantitative property that must be transferred to an object to perform work on, or to heat, the object. Energy is a conserved quantity; the law of energy conservation states that energy can be converted in form, but not created or destroyed. From a lay-persons perspective, – energy is what drives us. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) perspective, we are energy, and when the chakras or our meridians are out of balance, we create dis-ease in our bodies. There is negative and positive energy. We can feel the energy when we walk in a room or when we meet someone. How we use and control, our energy can be impactful to our health. If we are feeling hopeless, stressed, or fearful, it can be debilitating. These feelings block our body’s hormones and can damage our immune system. Can you imagine what could potentially be different if you were aware of how your emotions affect you? And what if you could control your emotions. When there is unaddressed negative energy, it can block your emotional and physical health. Imagine, if you believe you can control your emotions, then there are strategies that you can use to embrace and connect with your feelings beneath those emotions. You want to start by asking yourself – what are the feelings attached to these emotions. Here are some ways to better connect /recognize the feelings behind those emotions: • Do not suppress the emotions (anger, even happiness, or guilt, etc.) all play a role. After you understand the feelings, then you can choose how you want to react to them. • Ask yourself if these emotions are a part of you. Do you want to integrate them into what you believe? Do you want to evict them from your life? • Have these emotions been controlling your life? (negatively or positively)? Do you want to become senior to these emotions? • When I say (senior to the emotions), I mean this is an opportunity to elevate your awareness, and you choose to become mindful of what you want instead of saying, ‘this is just the way I am.’ Becoming senior to a circumstance gives you choice and power. If you choose to become senior to the emotions, then there are ways to make this happen: • Ask for divine guidance (a power greater than yourself) • Energy is the human experience, and it helps us navigate our choices (find a mantra or prayer to help stabilize or connect to those feelings) • Get a Life Coach to work through your options (emotions are a part of you, and they are not good or bad) but you must understand the driving force behind the emotions • If you choose to integrate your feelings into your life, then know what the emotions are about and understand that you are in control of what you feel and how you respond to those emotions When you embrace and choose to understand your emotions honestly and what drives the feelings behind the emotions, this will allow you to understand any stress, pain, frustration, and, or feelings of anger. Dr. Candace Pert, a research scientist, discovered and proved that (peptides and endorphins) affect our minds, emotions, and immune system, thereby validating that the body and mind are communicating. So why not learn and understand what your body is naturally trying to tell you. I hope that this blog will be encouraging for you to seek insight and knowledge to be a happier and healthier human being. Brenda Thompson-El, PhD
